Under the Weather

We received the photos from the Christmas party at the Huffs', and they sure are sweet. I especially like the back-to-back photos of Eli searching for his name in Santa's Nice Book and then discovering it printed there. You'll notice Mommy and Daddy even hopped in for a photo. Emmy also posed for a picture with her two friends, Peyton and Heidi.
After our "Hallmark" Saturday, things changed quite abruptly late Saturday night/early Sunday morning. Around midnight, Emmy woke up sick to her stomach, and let's just say...she did not make it to the bathroom in time. While Boomer got her showered and into clean pajamas, I worked on stripping her bed and starting the first of three loads of laundry. It required a total washing of sheets, bedspread, even the mattress pad and bed skirt. On Sunday, Emmy continued to run a fever, and so we stayed at home for some much needed rest and recuperation. It was clear that she would not be able to go to school the next day. She was still under the weather on Tuesday too, and for both Monday and Tuesday, she stayed at Grammy and Grandpa's. In between naps and an ample amount of spoiling, she did a few crafts and even worked on her cursive. (After all, her Grammy is a retired elementary teacher!) Finally on Tuesday evening, Emmy's appetite and energy returned. She was ready to go back to school on Wednesday to see her friends and teacher again.

Miraculously, Eli stayed healthy, and he was at school each day. He looks so grown up with his most recent haircut from Daddy. What a big boy!

And speaking of big, both kids had their annual well-check on Thursday. Eli measured in at 34 lbs 9 oz (37th percentile) and 3'4" (35th percentile). Emmy weighed 51 lbs 3 oz (53rd percentile) and measured 4'1" (67th percentile). Since Eli is now 4, I was given the option of doing the kindergarten screening, even though he still has another year of preschool. It meant he did the vision and hearing test and three additional shots, a total of four with the flu shot. Big sis went first with the flu shot, and both kiddos were so brave, no tears! There were excited to spend their gold coins for bouncy balls and other trinkets.

Unfortunately, while we were at the doctor's office, I started to feel crummy, and for the rest of the evening, I was struggling through dinner and the bedtime routine. I captured this sweet photo of Emmy and Eli reading together on their own while I was resting. It seems that the bug Emmy had made its way to me, and I was pretty much out of commission for the next 24 hours. I stayed home from work on Friday and even missed the family Christmas outing to the Winter Wonderlights at the Greensboro Science Center. I was so bummed to miss it. Luckily they captured a lot of great pictures from their fun evening.
I'm continuing to recover at home with a lazy Saturday. We had plans this evening to go the Williamses' for a weenie roast, but we decided it's best for me to stay home one more day. Oh, and for those wondering about Deacon, he is still bringing excitement each morning as the kids search for him and see his latest adventures.
