More Sickness

Well I thought that we were done with all the sickness after Emmy finished her prescription for strep...but the very next day on Thursday, I got a phone call from the preschool saying that Eli had pink eye! Luckily his pediatrician called in a prescription without requiring an office visit, and we started the drops right away. We made it through the end of the week, but then on Saturday morning, Boomer woke up with one of his eyes red and itchy. It was very evident that he had pink eye too. We took it easy on Saturday with some time outside and some card games. Luckily besides the red, itchy eyes, Boomer and Eli felt fine. However, it meant that Boomer had to stay home that evening while I attended my school's Military Ball solo. I missed having him as my date, but I know we still have Prom to look forward to in April. Oh the joys of working in a high school! :)

On Sunday, the Kennedy girls went to church and then went to a birthday party at Safari Nation for our neighbor Rachelle. Rachelle is one year older than Emmy and in 1st Grade. Since Rachelle also goes to Sedge Garden, Emmy knew a few of the other kids at the party. She wasn't shy at all and jumped right in to all the fun. I was so proud of how brave she was going down the slides and the zip line. Between kindergarten and her extra-curricular activities, she is becoming more comfortable in unfamiliar situations, and I love seeing her more confident.
After the birthday party, Emmy and I swung by the house to pick up the boys. Then we headed to Star for a welcome home party for Uncle Matt. Matt returned from deployment at the end of February, and it was the first time that we were able to gather together to celebrate. The kids had a blast riding on Paw Paw's golf cart, playing with Granny's new kitten, and hitting baseballs with their cousins. It was especially cute to see the two grandsons playing together. Trivett was so sweet to throw pitch after pitch to Eli. For dinner, Paw Paw grilled chicken and hot dogs. After dinner, we hit the road back to Kernersville and arrived home around 9PM. It was late for a school night, and Monday morning was a little rough, but knowing that Spring Break is just around the corner has made it a little easier to push through each day this week.

Just a few other photos from our week, Emmy wrapped up the March session of gymnastics. She has enjoyed it so much that we have signed up for the April session as well. Eli is a good sport to tag along and play with his race cars during the 45-minute class. Sometimes these two bicker and fight, but I've also noticed some sweet moments where they are getting along. They even requested to take a bath together this week! Usually Emmy will shower on her own, and then Eli will have a bath afterwards. I know they say that parents never know when it may be the last time something happens, and I couldn't help but think of that saying as they were both splashing around in the tub. It was photo worthy for sure!

Guys Weekend for Daddy

Usually I am the one going away on girls trips and fun adventures, but after 12 years, it was finally Boomer's turn. Before Christmas, a few Wake wives emailed about a trip to surprise the guys. They had a weekend picked out in March and the destination of Hilton Head Island. After the surprise was revealed, the girls turned the rest of the planning over to the guys for tee times, travel arrangements, and food. I had my doubts if they would pull it off, but they did! There were seven guys: two from NC, one from Maryland, two from Georgia, one from Florida, and one from Washington! I'm glad that Boomer could enjoy some time with his friends. They are a fun group!

While Daddy was away, I held down the fort at home. On Friday night, we met up with Emmy's preschool friend Norah and her mommy Meredith and little brother Oliver. The girls got a special treat of ice cream (in a cone!) On Saturday, we did some grocery shopping and played outside. We enjoyed the laidback schedule with very few obligations. We struggled a bit on Sunday morning with the time change. We lost an hour of sleep because of Daylight Savings Time, and it was dark and dreary as we were leaving the house. I know we will enjoy the extra sunlight in the evenings, but I am not loving these dark mornings.

You might notice Eli sporting a bandaid on his cheek. Over the last few weeks, he has developed a habit of scratching at his cheek while sucking his fingers. He usually does it when he is in his car seat or at night when he is in his crib. As I'm writing this, his face is looking a lot better, and it seems to be healing. He is no longer wearing a bandaid during the day, but we are still putting one on at night. I am hoping this phase is short-lived and that we can ditch the bandaids soon. In other news, we've had back-to-back cases of strep. Eli caught it first, and then shortly after, Emmy got it too. Both kids never complained of sore throats; the symptoms were mostly fevers and fatigue. On the bright side, they both loved the bubble gum medicine and the extra spoiling at Grammy and Grandpa's. Hopefully as spring approaches, we will say goodbye to all the germs.

Trying New Things

With the end of the basketball season, we moved right to the next sport: gymnastics! Just as Emmy was expressing interest in gymnastics, I saw a post from the Kernersville Parks & Rec offering classes for beginners during the months of March and April. I hesitantly signed up for a single class, but then after the first one, I signed up for the rest of the month. Emmy has been excited to build on her skills, and she has been practicing her cartwheels, somersaults, and backbends. In the span of five days, she had her last basketball game, a dance class, and her first gymnastics lesson. Whew! I am so proud of her for trying new things. As we finish out the rest of March with dance on Tuesdays and gymnastics on Wednesdays, I am curious to see what her preference is. I think we can commit to one thing next year, but probably not both. She may decide to switch to gymnastics - we'll see!

Emmy's school's motto is Spread Kindness, and I love this picture that Aunt Megan captured of her.
With our Saturdays free from basketball, we returned to the Science Center, and we were so impressed by the new expansion to the treehouse. The kids had lots of fun climbing through the ropes, going down the slides, and walking over the bridges. Of course we love seeing the animals too, but the treehouse was definitely the big hit of the day.

The other new thing this week: Eli's first at-home haircut! His hair had gotten quite long, and Daddy thought he could do it himself to save the trip to Great Clips. I'll admit, I was skeptical; but Boomer felt confident that he could do the job. So we got out the clippers and a lollipop and gave it a try. Eli did a great job sitting still, and I was happy with the final product. Our sweet boy looks so handsome!
