Labor Day Weekend

This weekend always seems to mark the end of summer. Almost right on time, the weather has turned a bit cooler, and there is a hint of fall in the air. For our usual Saturday morning run, Megan and I were glad for the lower humidity and a cool morning breeze. No doubt we will still have some hot days; it is North Carolina after all, but Labor Day closes the chapter on summer and starts the new season of fall. September also means the return of football. Boomer is gearing up for another year of fantasy football and has had several drafts over the last few days. He has cut back this year - he is only in FIVE leagues (haha!) He has been watching a lot of golf, baseball, and NASCAR, but he is always excited when it is football season again. Next weekend should be especially exciting since ESPN College Game Day is coming to Winston for the Wake Forest season opener vs. Clemson. Usually we would have already had a few weeks of Friday night lights by now, but high school sports are still postponed until after November 1st. In light of COVID, the NFL and college games will be played without fans; any non-players will be wearing face coverings; and there will be other precautions in place to minimize health risks. It will be a different season for sure. Looking back at pictures from this week, it's funny to see Eli as "Daddy's little football" and wearing a Braves hat, while Emmy is dressed like Elsa and making cupcakes with Grammy. Such is life in a split household with a girl and a boy!

On Saturday, we went to the lake for one last summer hurrah. We got there around lunchtime and stayed overnight. Goosie and the kids were there when we arrived, and Emmy took some time to warm up to all of her cousins. It didn't take too long though, and she was splashing around in the water, too. She loved playing with Ellison and Whitlee in the baby pool, coloring on the porch, or "fishing" with their noodles. The "big kids" Trivett, Adelynn, and Kessley all played well with the little girls and showed them how to jump on the lilly pad. With this crazy cousin crew, there were a lot of Capri Suns, pop tarts, Cheetos, and gold fish consumed over the weekend! When you are with Granny and Paw Paw, sometimes the normal rules just go out the window. We'll be back to our regular diets and sleep schedules tomorrow!
