September So Far

It's been a busy month so far! After the Labor Day holiday, both kids had dentist appointments that next morning at 8AM. Boomer took them (he's the best Daddy!), and Emmy and Eli did great during their cleanings. Unfortunately, Emmy's X-rays revealed another cavity, so she will be going back in October for a filling. Since their appointments, we have been flossing each night, and I'm hoping our diligence makes a difference, in Emmy's mouth...and for our wallets! Dental work is expensive, geesh! Eli's preschool had Picture Day and also a special breakfast for Grandparents' Day. Grammy and Grandpa took him to school that morning, and he sure loved the extra special attention. Over that next weekend, I made a day trip to Raleigh to celebrate Jen at her baby shower. She is expecting her second, a baby girl, due to arrive any day now. It was so fun to see Jen and the other Wake girls. While I was away for a few hours, Boomer took the kids to the park and managed to get them both to take naps - how does he do it?!

Emmy continues to love 1st Grade. While she loves her teacher and her classmates, she was most excited about earning a hugger from the school's fundraiser. She now has a penguin to go along with the snow leopard from Granny and Paw Paw. Emmy has two weekly commitments right now: church on Wednesdays and gymnastics on Thursdays. Since Boomer has his UNCG class on Wednesday nights, Eli tags along with me for the hour or so until Emmy is finished. We play on the church playground or go for a stroll around the parking lot. On Thursday nights, we split boys and girls, usually eating separately, with the boys at home and us girls having fast food before Emmy's 6PM gymnastics class.

Mixed in with our regular weekly schedule, we've had a few special things: a monster truck event, the Yadkin Valley Harvest Festival, and a party with Princess Rapunzel.

We are getting in the groove of the school year and finding a rhythm to our early mornings and busy evenings. Usually by the time the weekend arrives, we are all ready for the two-day break. Here is a picture of real life on a Friday evening, when neither kid liked the song on the radio. As my sister would say, "Sometimes being a parent is amazing...and sometimes you just count down until bedtime!" :)
