There has been no shortage of fun fall activities! On Friday evening, we went to the SGES Fall Festival. We purchased tickets ahead of time, which were used for games, activities, and snacks. Emmy chose face-painting, while Eli loved the pumpkin bowling, and both kids enjoyed the cotton candy and snow cones. During the Fall Festival, the annual Book Fair was set up in the Media Center, and Emmy spent time carefully browsing the selection of books, journals, and other items. Aunt Megan bought her another Jory John book to add to her collection, and she was so excited. Grammy bought a few things too for both of the kids' upcoming birthdays and Christmas. It will be here before we know it!
On Sunday, we went to our church's annual Fall Fest. Emmy wanted to be a cheerleader, and by default and with not much choice, Eli went as a football player. Eli decided he did not want to wear the eye black or sweat armbands, but all in all, I think we pulled it off. It will be hard to top last year's coordinating costumes of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad - I think those will forever be my favorite. We were quite worn out on Sunday evening from all the fall fun. I gave in to Eli's request to fall asleep in my bed (I know, what got into me?!) He is still my baby after all.
Last week, I had the opportunity to present at the annual NC Community College System Conference in Raleigh with my colleagues from Surry Community College. Our session was on Tuesday, the 15th, and it was entitled "Advising Dual Enrollment Students: Teamwork for Student Access & Success." I enjoyed the experience of sharing about the work we are doing in our high schools. It was also fun to spend a couple days in a new setting with other professionals. The conference had sessions on Monday and Tuesday, and I was able to go both days. I elected to drive back to Kernersville at the end of each day rather than spending the night in a hotel, mostly out of necessity, since on Monday evening, both kids had ball games at two different ballfields. Emmy had an away game in Mocksville in Davie County, while Eli had a game at the home fields in Walkertown. We divided up, with Boomer and Grammy going with Emmy, and Grandpa and I accompanied Eli. We texted back and forth between the games. Both kids did well and continue to show good effort and focus. They make us very proud! I captured a sweet moment in the backseat on the way to ballfield on Saturday morning. Even though Emmy has progressed to chapter books, she enjoys reading her picture books to Eli. We have two weeks remaining of fall ball. I have to admit, I will be sad when it comes to an end. But I will be glad to have a few more weeknights at home during the month of November...that is, until basketball begins! :)
