Whew, we made it to November! We spread out the Halloween holiday for almost 2 weeks, starting with our church's Fall Festival on Sunday, the 22nd. We always love this annual event. The parking lot is filled with trunk-or-treats, bounce houses, food trucks, and other entertainment. For this year's Fall Festival, the four cousins coordinated as characters from Super Mario Bros. Even Aunt Megan and Uncle Zack joined in on the fun! There were a few Super Mario Bros. -themed trunks, and Emmy posed with Princess Daisy. All the kiddos (and adults!) had lots of fun.
A few days later, on Wednesday, we made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch. Emmy and Eli each picked out smaller pumpkins, and we got one larger pumpkin to carve. They especially liked the white ones this year.
There was more dress-up fun for Emmy on Friday, when her school had Career Day. Even though I tried to explain that she was supposed to dress up as her future occupation, she was excited to find any excuse to wear her cheerleading uniform. So here she is, our future professional cheerleader! That same morning, the school had a Goodies for Grown-ups and the Scholastic Book Fair. I was able to take Emmy to school, before jetting off to school myself. Emmy was so excited to show me the library and to point out her work in the hallway outside of her classroom.

In between all the Halloween festivities, I fit in a girls dinner to celebrate Caroline's birthday...
...Boomer was recognized at a recent school board meeting as the CTE Regional Director of the Year for the Piedmont Triad Region...
...and we went to a race at Martinsville! Knowing how much Eli loves race cars, my dad has been very excited to take him to his first race. A few months ago, we made plans to go to Martinsville for the Xfinity race. Xfinity races tend to be shorter than the NASCAR races and on Saturdays, rather than Sundays. The day was unusually warm, and we all wore shorts and t-shirts. Before going into the track, the kids had fun in the KidsZone, racing small cars and getting up close to some real ones. Once it was time to go inside, we found shady seats in the general admission grandstand. The kids' eyes lit up when the engines started and it was time to go racing! Grandpa's car (picked randomly before the race) #7 Justin Allgaier won in a dramatic overtime finish, with a huge pileup right at the end. Eli was in racecar heaven seeing all the smoke and damage. The first thing he asked the next morning was: "When are we going back to the race?"
Emmy's school was closed on October 30th and 31st for Teacher Workdays, and she went to Triad on those two days. It is such a nice perk that they will watch the kids on Teacher Workdays. Eli's teacher, Mrs. Judy, sent these pictures of Emmy and Eli having lunch together and Emmy reading to Eli's Bluebird class. She felt very special being a teacher helper.
When the actual day of Halloween rolled around, I will admit, I was a little tired and not too enthusiastic about making our rounds through the neighborhood. But I summoned one last bit of Halloween spirit, and we got the kids suited up in their costumes one more time. Eli, Emmy, and I made a loop around our cul-de-sac, and then Eli decided to stay home with Daddy to pass out candy while Emmy and I continued around the neighborhood. Emmy got quite a haul of candy and was very nice to share with her brother once we got home.
I'm hoping that November brings a little more downtime...although it seems unlikely, with two birthdays and the Thanksgiving holiday. Here are few pictures of some slower moments at home during October.
