We successfully had a full week with both kids back at school. After ten days of quarantine, everyone was symptom-free and ready to return to the regular routine. Both Emmy and Eli had a lot of fun while at my parents' house, so it took some convincing to get them excited about school again. On the last day of Grammy Daycare, the kids did several cute fall crafts. Eli has often asked about going to "Bee Dee's" (his name for Grammy), and Boomer said that there were tears during drop-off each morning at school. The tears had just started to become less frequent before he got sick, so hopefully he will once again adjust to being back at school.
For those ten days, the kiddos went between our home and my parents', and that was the extent of their activities. We even celebrated our "Chipotle anniversary" with take-out in our kitchen, instead of at the restaurant. After two weeks of staying home, we were excited to get back out in the real world. On Friday evening, my sister and I braved taking the four cousins to the Forbush football game. It was the last home game of the season and also Homecoming, and with mild summer-like temperatures, it was a perfect opportunity to fit in a game before the weather turns cold. Aunt Megan picked up Emmy and Eli from school (she's amazing!) and headed west to meet me for dinner and then on to the game. Sadly we did not see the queen crowned at halftime; we left just a few minutes before. After a full week, kids and adults were in need of a good night's rest. On Saturday, we went to the Science Center. It was a beautiful morning, and lots of the animals were moving around. Eli took a very good nap that afternoon - almost 4 hours!
One special event this week was Zander's baptism. He asked Jesus into his heart and wanted to follow through with baptism. It was sweet to see his confidence as he answered "yes" that he believed. Emmy and I were able to be there for the service. She had a few questions, like "How did he get wet?" "Where are his dry clothes?" "Who is the Holy Spirit?" My hope is that she will continue to learn about Jesus at school and church and that we will have conversations at home so that one day she too accepts Jesus in her heart.
Both kiddos are all about Daddy right now, especially Eli. He wants Daddy to get him out of the car, Daddy to put him to bed, Daddy to get him from his crib. Sometimes I sneak in cuddles reading with him before bed. Instead of sitting on my lap, he likes to wiggle down so that he is sitting on his "own seat." I love this photo Boomer snapped of us together.
